Tha Funk Capital of the World is the 13th studio album by US funk musician Bootsy Collins , which was released on April 29, 2011 on Mascot Records. The style of the total of 17 songs is a mixture of the classic elements of P-funk and soul with rap , jazz and many otherstyles ofmusic. The album includes guest appearances by: Ice Cube , Snoop Dogg , Samuel L. Jackson , George Clinton and Jimi Hendrix .

The cover designed by Roy Koch is an artwork . In the center you can see a skyline , behind which Bootsy, with a typically colorful outfit, stands. Around it are the instruments of a typical funk band, on the 2 picks are the names of the late musician Garry Shider and the guitarist Buckethead . In the lower third is the name of the album and that of the artist.

Vinyl version

On the inside of the foldable double LP version there is an animated skyline, which partly consists of instruments. The records are pressed in blue-transparent PVC and housed in inner sleeves made of thin cardboard with pictures of Collins printed on them.

According to Bootsy Collins, the name Tha Funk Capital of the World describes himself, his inner being and his music.

criticism

The album received average reviews, with the Metacritic website calculating an average rating of 69% from 12 reviews. David Hilzendegen from laut.de notes that the album “has nothing to do with the raw and puristic sound of earlier days”, but offers “well-produced pop” and still remains true to Collins style. He gives the album 4 out of 5 points.
