Kelli Ali (born June 30, 1974 in Birmingham , England ), formerly known as Kelli Dayton , is an English singer and guitarist .

Career

Ali, then still Dayton, became known through her work as the lead singer in the British trip-hop group Sneaker Pimps . After they made a name for themselves with the single 6 Underground from the album Becoming X , the Sneaker Pimps decided in 1998 to continue their career without Dayton. So she started her solo career. Before the Sneaker Pimps, Dayton was with the hip-hop band Psycho Drama , after which she joined The Lumieres a few years later as a songwriter , singer and lead guitarist . The Lumieres released the single Cinder hearts , among others.

Under the name Kelli Ali, which she chose to honor her father, Michael Ali, she started her solo career in 2003 with the album Tigermouth . With this she moved from the trip-hop music to the dream pop level. The hits Sunlight in the Rain and Kids , in which The Doors drummer John Densmore participated, emerged from him.

In 2003 Ali went on tour with Garbage . She released her next album Psychic Cat in 2004. Musically, it went back to her rock 'n' roll roots. Former author Tony O'Neill supported her on the keyboard, among others.

In April 2006, Ali traveled to Japan to write and record songs with Hoshino Hidehiko from Buck-Tick and Cube Juice from Dropz . That same year, producer Paul Oakenfold recorded the song Faster Kill Pussycat with actress Brittany Murphy . On November 24, 2008, she released her third solo album, Rocking Horse . It contains more spherical and acoustic parts. This album was produced in the first half of 2008 by Max Richter ( Fat Cat Records ) in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

In 2012, Kelli Ali worked on her new album Band of Angels , which she started to finance for the first time through a crowdfunding call.
