Buck-Tick are a Japanese band founded in 1987. They are one of the first bands in Japan to be assigned to the J-Rock genre. Members are singer Atsushi Sakurai (* 1966), guitarist Hisashi Imai (* 1965), guitarist Hidehiko Hoshino (* 1966), the Uta bassist Yutaka Higuchi (* 1967) and drummer Toru Yagami (* 1962).

They made their debut in 1987 with SEXUAL xxxxx! . In the beginning their music was strongly influenced by the then very successful group Boøwy , but changed over time from pop / punk to a more rocky and darker style. The Cure , Soft Cell , Depeche Mode and David Bowie are considered influences .

biography

BUCK-TICK's first album was released in 1987 and was still an indie album. Their second album, released in the same year, has already been released under a major label . In 1988 the band was in London for some time, where they recorded the album TABOO .

Even if the band was styled as wildly as z. B. the musicians from X JAPAN , the hairstyles have become more subtle over the years. Only Tooru still wears his mohawk. Like other well-known bands and solo artists in the J-Rock category such as L'Arc ~ en ~ Ciel , LUNA SEA , Gackt and X JAPAN , the band already played in the Tokyo Dome and managed to sell it out.

Singer Atsushi and guitarist Imai were very friends with the guitarist hide ( X Japan ), who died in 1998, as well as with Yoshiki ( X Japan ) and SUGIZO ( Luna Sea , X Japan ). That is why BUCK-TICK also played at the first hide memorial summit 2000 , which was held in memory of hide.

Every year since 2001, shortly before New Year's Eve, the band has organized the “Day in Question”, a concert at which they also play many old pieces and which therefore usually has nothing to do with the setup of the previous tour. This event also took place in 2009 and included a setlist with 22 pieces.

The songs are mostly written by Imai or Hidehiko, while the lyrics are largely by Atsushi, although Imai and Hidehiko contributed some. Tooru is responsible for the management - he runs the management company with which BUCK-TICK is under contract.

music

Buck-Tick's music is very diverse. Generally speaking, they play classic rock, but it can also contain Gothic elements. The album Juusankai wa gekkou ( 十三 階 は 月光 ), for example, was very dark, as was the tour that went with it. Various other musical styles have also been experimented with, which can be heard well with the song " ICONOCLASM " , for example .
