biography

After studying law from 1840 to 1844 at the University of Lausanne , Estoppey was justice of the peace in Payerne from 1845 to 1848 and then deputy public prosecutor until 1861. He was also director of the Collège von Payerne from 1849 to 1851 and then a hardware store. From 1858 he was a military judge and in 1862 he was admitted to the bar . He was partner of Victor Luffy in Lausanne and later from 1862 to 1866 and from 1873 to 1874 canton judge.

He was elected to the National Council in 1852 and had a seat there until 1863. From 1866 to 1873 and from 1874 to 1888 he was a free-minded State Councilor of the Canton of Vaud and was elected to the Council of States in 1875 , where he had a seat until 1888. In 1875 he rejected the election to the Federal Council .

At the beginning, Estoppey was a boisterous radical in federal politics , but later followed the political line of his party colleagues from the canton of Vaud , only deviating in 1878 as a supporter of the so-called Gotthard Compromise.

He was a member of Zofingia and later of Helvetia .
