Greg Mottola (* 11. July 1964 in Dix Hills , Long Iceland , New York as Gregory James Mottola ) is an American filmmaker who primarily as a film director , but also works as a film producer , screenwriter too, and occasionally as an actor acting.

He is married to Sarah Allentuch, the casting assistant and longtime assistant to Woody Allen , and has three children. In 2007, they became parents to a New York City-born son.

life and career

Greg Mottola was born in the summer of 1964 in the small town of Dix Hills on Long Island in the US state of New York , known as hamlet ( dt : hamlet or very small village ) . There he grew up in a Catholic family of Irish - Italian descent. At an advanced age he came to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh , where he completed his education with a Bachelor of Fine Arts . Then Mottola moved back home to Columbia University in New York City , where he received the academic title of Master of Fine Arts after completing a master's degree . During this time he was already working as a director; He made his debut as a film director with Swingin 'in the Painter's Room in 1989. It was also announced in March 2011 that Mottola would direct the new HBO pilot by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkins ; the series was ordered under the name The Newsroom and ran from 2012 to 2014.
