Rosario Mazzola

Rosario Mazzola (born September 19, 1924 in Palermo , † December 24, 2018 in Cefalù ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Cefalù .

Life

Rosario Mazzola studied at the Seminary of Palermo and was on 16 July 1950 by Ernesto Ruffini for ordained priests . He then worked as a parish priest in the Archdiocese of Palermo, in particular he was committed to helping the homeless.

On 19 June 1982, he was by Pope John Paul II. To auxiliary bishop in Palermo and titular bishop of Polymartium appointed the episcopal ordination he received on 4 September 1982 which Salvatore Cardinal Pappalardo , Archbishop of Palermo. Co- consecrators were Angelo Cella , Bishop of Veroli-Frosinone , and Vincenzo Cirrincione , Auxiliary Bishop in Palermo.

On July 23, 1988, Rosario Mazzola was appointed Bishop of Cefalù. In March 1995, he and other Sicilian bishops condemned the activities of the Mafia , which they called "shame".

Pope John Paul II accepted Mazzola's age-related resignation on March 18, 2000.
