Ernesto Cardinal Ruffini (born January 19, 1888 in San Benedetto Po , Province of Mantua , Italy , † June 11, 1967 in Palermo ) was an archbishop of Palermo .

Life

Ruffini attended the Seminary of Mantua , graduated from the Theological Faculty in Milan and at the Pontifical College Angelicum in Rome Catholic theology and received on 10 June 1910 in Mantua, the sacrament of Holy Orders . After further studies he held academic and curial offices in Rome , among other things he was secretary of the Holy Congregation for the seminaries and universities .

On October 11, 1945, Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Archbishop of Palermo . He received his episcopal ordination on December 8, 1945 in Rome by Giuseppe Cardinal Pizzardo . On February 18, 1946 Ruffini was by Pope Pius XII. accepted into the college of cardinals as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Sabina . Ruffini took part in the conclaves of 1958 and 1963 and was a participant in the Second Vatican Council , at which he represented a conservative theology in the Coetus Internationalis Patrum (together with Alfredo Ottaviani , Giuseppe Siri , Marcel Lefebvre , Michael Browne and others).

Ruffini died on June 11, 1967 in Palermo and was buried in the church of Santa Maria dei Rimedi in Palermo .
