The Coetus Internationalis Patrum (about: International Federation of Fathers ), Coetus for short , was a loose association of conservative forces during the Second Vatican Council .

history

The group had around 250 members, including Cardinals Giuseppe Siri , Arcadio María Larraona CMF , Rufino Jiao Santos , Alfredo Ottaviani , Michael Browne OP and Ernesto Ruffini . Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre CSSp , Archbishop Geraldo de Proença Sigaud SVD , Bishop José Maurício da Rocha and Bishop Antônio de Castro Mayer also organized themselves in the Coetus.

Although the Coetus was not an ecclesiastical organization in the narrower sense, its members saw themselves as belonging together in the sense of their goals. The main concern of the Coetus was the theological continuation of the church on the basis of the papal magisterium.
