Detroit 1-8-7 (also Detroit 187 ) is an American drama series produced by ABC Studios and Mandeville Films between 2010 and 2011 . The airing began in September 2010 and ended in March 2011. Michael Imperioli starred as Detective Louis Fitch , a member of a detroit police force investigating homicides .

The sequence of digits 1-8-7 in the title is taken from Section 187 of the California Penal Code , which deals with murder . Beyond California, 187 is a slang term for murder, especially in gang circles. In the state of Michigan , where Detroit is located, homicides are listed under Section 750 of the Penal Code.

On May 13, 2011, the series was discontinued after a season of ABC.

"A throwback to an earlier era of cop shows when steel-edged realism was still novel and there was a thrill to watching terse, streetwise detectives on shows like ' Dragnet ' and ' Kojak ' cajole witnesses and browbeat suspects."

"A return to an earlier era of police series, when steely realism was new and captivating to watch the laconic and shrewd detectives in series like 'Dragnet' and 'Kojak' fool around witnesses and intimidate suspects."

- Alessandra Stanley : The New York Times

"A too-conventional cop show"

"A too conventional police series"

- John Doyle : The Globe and Mail

'Detroit 1-8-7' […] does not succeed in offering a fresh take on a police drama, but thanks to some strong performances, particularly from Michael Imperioli […] as detective Louis Fitch, it's certainly watchable for viewers who are not tired of the genre.

“'Detroit 1-8-7' […] fails to convey a new perspective on the police drama; but thanks to some strong appearances, especially that of Michael Imperioli [...] as Detective Louis Fitch, he is definitely worth seeing for viewers who are not tired of the genre. "
