James McDaniel

James McDaniel (born March 25, 1958 in Washington, DC ) is an American actor .

Life

James McDaniel originally studied veterinary medicine at the University of Pennsylvania . After graduating, he moved to New York City with no acting training , where he wanted to try his hand at acting. After initial difficulties without a job, he made his debut in a small extra role in the French comedy Ticket Into Chaos . From the end of the 1980s he regularly found himself in smaller and larger television roles in films such as Cops in Twilight , The Old Man and the Sea and Murder in Black and White . He made his Broadway debut on November 8, 1990 in Six Degrees of Separation , a drama by John Guare . For his portrayal he was awarded the Clarence Derwent Awards the following year .

He achieved great national and international fame through his play in the crime series New York Cops - NYPD Blue . From the first to the eighth season he embodied the character of Lieutenant Arthur Fancy throughout. For the performance, he received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 1996 Primetime Emmy Awards .

McDaniel lives in New York City with his wife and two sons.
