action
season 1
High school student Nina Patterson is the victim of a killer in her parents' home who brings back bad memories of past events in the small town of Lakewood. Her boyfriend Tyler O'Neill is initially blamed for this, but he too later becomes a victim of the killer. Nina's friends Emma Duval, Will Belmont, Brooke Maddox, Jake Fitzgerald and Riley Marra are shocked by the events. Emma soon receives a phone call from the killer who tells her that Nina's murder was just the beginning and that all of her friends, including her mother Margaret, are lying to her.
Over time, Emma finds out that her mother then knew the serial killer Brandon James and had an affair with him. For this reason, the killer wants revenge on the Duval family. Upon further investigation, she even learns that her mother was pregnant from Brandon and put the child up for adoption. In addition, secrets of Emma's friends come to light. So she learns that her boyfriend Will had an affair with Nina and was only in a relationship with her because of a bet. She separates from him and a short time later begins a relationship with Kieran Wilcox, the son of Sherif Clark Hudson, who has recently moved to town. In addition, Will blackmailed Mayor Quinn Maddox, Brooke's father, with Jake. She has a secret relationship with her teacher Seth Branson, who, however, lives under a false identity in Lakewood. Because of this, he becomes the prime suspect in the murder cases.
A world collapses for Emma and she is happy that she can reconcile with her former best friend Audrey Jenson, with whom she fell out over an Internet video, and that she and Noah Foster can hunt the killer. They find out that a year earlier, Brandon James' mask he was wearing at the time, as well as documents relating to the murder case, were stolen from the evidence room. In addition, Audrey is sure that her friend Rachel did not commit suicide, but was the victim of the killer. The reporter and podcaster Piper Shaw reports in detail on the murders and helps friends find the perpetrator. During their search, the friends are attacked several times by the killer.
The killer continues his game with Emma and Emma has to watch as Will, Riley and Sheriff Hudson die before their very eyes. After the Halloween ball, Emma, her mother and the killer have a showdown. They learn that Piper Shaw is the killer and also the daughter of Brandon and Margaret. In the decisive fight, Piper wants to say something to Emma, but is shot by Audrey and falls into the lake. When Piper juts out of the lake with her knife held up, Emma shoots Piper in the head, killing her. Piper's body falls into the lake and is not found. The season ends with Audrey burning Piper's letters and papers on the Brandon James case while Noah wonders how Piper could have been the killer all along, even though she herself was attacked by the killer at one point.
season 2
It has been three months since the events at Wren Lake. The survivors of the Lakewood murders are known as the Lakewood Six. Emma, who was admitted to a clinic after a nervous breakdown, returns to Lakewood, where her friends throw her a welcome party. Jake and Brooke, who are now a couple, split up after an argument. Jake is killed with a scythe by the new killer. Audrey is blackmailed by someone who knows about her connection with Piper.
Meanwhile, Noah continues to pursue his theory about an accomplice and, with the help of his podcast, finds someone who allegedly saw him. Just before this eyewitness, a motel receptionist, can tell Noah everything, Audrey calls him, who threatens him, which the receptionist thinks he was wrong. During this time Emma and Kieran manage to face her fears on the jetty of Wren Lake, which makes her more open to her relationship with Kieran. On the way home late in the evening, she is followed by a car, the driver of which turns out to be her father. Audrey wants to forestall Noah and sneaks to a warehouse at night where Piper has been seen several times to destroy possible evidence. There she discovers the murdered Jake and a message from the killer to you that he is now ensuring that her work is finished.
For Emma, more and more secrets from the common past of their parents open up, which does not simplify the relationship with her father. She follows a supposed message from her father to the well-known motel. However, she doesn't find him there, she only finds a few newspaper clippings. When she leaves the motel again, she sees her father, who has just been thrown out of the associated bar, is drunk and is starting a fight with the bartender. She can stop him and learns that her father has not written a message. Noah and Audrey go to the warehouse together and Audrey fears the worst, but only a few harmless items are found, as if nothing had ever happened. Audrey discovers surveillance cameras, one of which Noah takes away. But it turns out that nothing has been saved. Then in the car, Audrey receives a call from the killer with a video of Emma in a motel room. The killer first shows the murdered receptionist lying in the bathtub, then Emma and then himself in the bathroom. Audrey tries in vain to reach Emma, then calls the police, but finally sees Emma together with her father. After Jake's death, Brooke begins an affair and later a relationship with Gustavo "Stavo" Acosta, the son of the new sheriff Miguel Acosta. Audrey thought Stavo was the culprit for some time, as he drew disturbing pictures of the "Lakewood Six". However, when Audrey gets to know him better, she changes her mind.
At the end of the season, Noah is stabbed by a lake and buried alive. Audrey and Emma go in search of their boyfriend and end up in the pig farm's barn. After freeing Noah, they look for Zoe, his girlfriend. When they arrive at the lake, they find a coffin. In this you will find the dead Zoe. While Noah is recovering from the traumatic experiences in the hospital, his friends are supposed to destroy his notes on the killer. Audrey finds a picture of Will's funeral showing Kieran's cousin Eli. Thus Eli moves into the focus of the investigation. When the mayor and father of Brooke, Quinn Maddox, is killed in the pig farm's barn and Audrey and Emma are there, it is clear to the police that the friends are the killers. They are arrested and are on their way to the police station when suddenly the real killer appears on the street and forces the police car to evade. He murders the policeman and frees Emma and Audrey. They go on the run from the police and the killer. The cinema where Audrey worked at the beginning of the series serves to protect them. Shortly afterwards, Noah, Brooke and Kieran join them. When Brooke's cell phone rings, Emma lures him to the cinema. Together they want to hunt down the killer and spread out at the entrances while Kieran searches the cinema. When they suddenly hear screams from the cinema, everyone goes there except Audrey. In the cinema, Brooke is stabbed by the killer while Audrey is missing. Kieran urges Emma to flee as she is still wanted. In the car she receives a video from the killer. Audrey was captured and kidnapped. The trail leads Emma to the children's home where Piper grew up. There she finds Audrey and tries to free her when Kieran shows up. Shortly after Kieran, Eli appears too. The two accuse each other of being the killer, as Emma believes Kieran and the evidence, she shoots Eli. Relieved, she frees Audrey. Kieran assures her that from now on she can live in safety. This sentence reminds Emma of a statement by the killer. So it becomes clear to her that it is not Eli but Kieran who is the killer. Emma escapes through the children's home, followed by Kieran who has Audrey under his control. After a short fight, the two of them overpower Kieran and Audrey urges Emma to kill him. Emma decides not to kill him, however. The police appear shortly afterwards and he is arrested. While in jail, Kieran gets a phone call accusing him of wearing the Brandon James mask without permission.
Eight months later, Kieran is convicted, but shortly afterwards killed by the real killer. Emma tries to focus on her future and wants to enroll in college. Audrey is in a new relationship with Gina McLane and Brooke plans to move to New York with Stavo. Meanwhile, Noah and Stavo have published a successful graphic novel about the Lakewood murders together. Her publisher Jeremy Blair is now demanding a second novel from the two of them. The friends travel to Shadow Grove with publisher Jeremy Blair to conduct research. There, Stavo and Naoh want to get to the bottom of the legend of Anna Hobbs. As soon as he arrives on the island, a series of murders begins, in which, among others, Jeremy falls victim. The friends get to know Tom Martin, with whom Emma is dating. During their research into the series of murders, they come closer to the killer. It's Tom. After Emma kills him, they return to Lakewood. Emma enrolls at Lakewood College, Brooke wants to go to New York with Stavo, and Noah broadcasts the Shadow Grove murders and wonders who Kieran's killer is. At the same time, Kevin Duval is standing at Kieran's grave and a “Mr. James “checks into the Lakewood Motel.
