The Secret of the Rainbow Stone (Original Title: Shorts ) is an American children's film from 2009 by Robert Rodriguez . The film is about a boy who comes into possession of a wish-fulfilling stone and thus attracts the envy of his fellow human beings. It was released in the USA on August 21, 2009, in Germany on October 1, 2009 and on February 5, 2010 on DVD.

The 11-year-old Toe Thompson and one day is hit on the head by an enigmatic stone. The stone shines in the most beautiful rainbow colors and has apparently fallen from the sky. A little later it turns out that the stone can fulfill its owner's wishes. With his wishes, Toe throws the entire environment into chaos. Both the adults and the children from the neighborhood want to own the stone themselves and try to grab it by all means.

The film received mixed reviews overall. At Rotten Tomatoes , 45% of the reviews are positive out of a total of 100 reviews; the average rating is 5.3 / 10. In the critical consensus it says: " Shorts has imagination and energy, but most viewers who have passed elementary school age will surely tire in view of the child-friendly humor and the overstraining of the senses." The film service described the film as "highly imaginative, narrative like." Staged, sparkling, cross-generational, entertaining fantasy adventure about childish dream fantasies and their perversion by the interests of adults ”.

Awards

The young ensemble around Jimmy Bennett was recognized for its performance in the film at the Young Artist Awards 2010 . Jolie Vanier also received a nomination for Best Actress in a Feature Film .
