production

Pre-production

In late April 2018, Paramount announced that a sequel to A Quiet Place is in the works. Bryan Woods and Scott Beck , the scriptwriters of the predecessor, had the first ideas for this even before a second part was officially confirmed. In the summer of 2018, John Krasinski confirmed that he would be involved in the project, but it remained unclear in which role. Originally he wanted to pass the directorial position on to a successor, but when new ideas for a sequel emerged, he began writing the script on the advice of producer Andrew Form . Woods and Beck, on the other hand, are not part of the project because, according to their own statement, they prefer to create original ideas instead of promoting film universes. In February 2019, it was finally announced that Krasinski would also return as a director for the sequel. In addition, Emily Blunt will again impersonate the role of Evelyn Abbott and receive a fee between 12 and 13 million US dollars . Furthermore, there was Paramount Pictures in negotiations with Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe on their return. In this case, the sequel should again be about the family from the first part. An alternative should be to focus on other aspects within the post-apocalyptic world. The first new signing was Brian Tyree Henry . He revealed in an interview that the film will tell you something about the origin of the monsters and other backgrounds. He also confirmed that the Abbott family will be back in the film and meet other survivors. Henry later had to leave the project due to scheduling problems and was replaced by Djimon Hounsou . Furthermore, Cillian Murphy is said to be part of the cast and play the character Emmett , who joins the family with "mysterious intentions". Cinematographer Polly Morgan commented on the plot that the film focuses more on the growing up children, how they explore the world and learn to protect themselves. According to Krasinski, the film also lays the foundation for a possible third part, for which, however, there are no concrete plans yet.

As in the first part, Marco Beltrami composes the film music.

Filming

Young actor Noah Jupe in September 2019 in Toronto

The shooting, with Polly Morgan acting as camerawoman, began in mid-June 2019 under the working title "Part II". In preparation for this, Krasinski visited several possible filming locations in western New York at the end of April 2019 . On the night of July 10, 2019, filming took place in Olcott near Lake Ontario , after residents first arranged a shooting date in the village at the beginning of September 2019, which was later brought forward. In preparation, the green areas of the site were not mowed for three weeks and the street lighting was manipulated by technicians. Between July 15 and 19 and July 22 and 24, 2019, the film was shot in Akron , where some action scenes with cars were filmed in the city center and all buildings on the main street were given new facades. In mid-August 2019 studio recordings took place in Buffalo and further recordings in Dunkirk . On August 25, the South Grand Island Bridge , which connects the cities of Tonawanda and Grand Island , was closed to filming all morning. At the beginning of September 2019 the film was shot for a week in the Bay of Barcelona . This was followed by recordings in Orchard Park , including in the Orchard Park Railroad Depot . The film was shot in Pawling and Dover from September 19 to 24 . At the same time, the production team returned to New Paltz in the Hudson Valley , where recordings were made for the predecessor, including on a railway bridge. Filming was finished on September 25, 2019. The following month it was announced that it was also being shot on Bennett Beach in Angola on the Lake , Erie County . In return for the filming permit, Paramount donated $ 4,500 to the county's Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department for beach improvements. The money will be used to improve accessibility and make it easier for people with disabilities to access the beach.

The shooting is said to have created over 400 jobs, including around 300 extras , with Western New York taking in over ten million US dollars.
