Anke Westphal writes in epd Film that director Jonathan Levine knows how to combine fine points in polished dialogues with a certain, mostly sexually connotated explicitness, without falling into dull thigh throbbing. The most interesting highlight in Liz Hannah and Dan Sterling's script is the change in roles and gender stereotypes: "While Charlotte acts in the traditional sense of being 'male' ('Am I emotional, they call me weak!')
