action
In New York City working priest Michael Pace ( Tom Berenger ) is called the last rites to make a wounded man who dies shortly thereafter. He knew the man who was related to him.
Later the dancer Angela ( Daphne Zuniga ) makes her confession at Pace . She was a lover of the killed man and she was there when he was shot in front of his wife. Pace wants to help the woman and visits her in her apartment. There Pace and Angela can only narrowly escape the killers who were dispatched by the betrayed wife and her father, the mafia boss Carlo Pace. Michael offers Angela refuge in his church .
It turns out that Michael Pace comes from the same family that hunts Angela; Don Carlo Pace is his father. Michael falls in love with her, but also realizes that she is abusing him for her own protection.
Reviews
"Excitingly constructed, dense thriller that lives largely from the priest's conflict of conscience, but noticeably degrades towards the end and comes up with an indisputable ending."
