Frank Buck - Adventures in Malaysia (Original title: Bring 'Em Back Alive ) is an American adventure series that is about a big game hunter in Singapore in the late 1930s. It was produced by Columbia Pictures Television and ran from 1982 to 1983 on the US television station CBS .

action

Big game hunter Frank Buck hunted animals in Singapore in the late 1930s without killing them. He operates from the Raffles Hotel . He not only hunts wild animals, but also spies, smugglers and Nazis. He has many adventures with Gloria Marlowe, the US Vice Consul in the British Crown Colony of Straits Settlements (which Singapore was then part of).

occupation

  • Bruce Boxleitner : Frank Buck, an American big game hunter
  • Cindy Morgan: Gloria Marlowe, a U.S. Vice Consul
  • Clyde Kusatsu : Ali, Frank's assistant and friend
  • Ron O'Neal : HH, a fictional sultan of Johor
  • Sean McClory : Myles Delaney, the manager of the Raffles Hotel
  • John Zee: GB of Turgo, a smuggler and the king of the underworld of Singapore

production

The series was shot in the California studio as well as in Arcadia . Jungle scenes were recreated in the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, and landscape shots were taken from Hawaii.

publication

The series ran on Tuesday nights in competition with The A-Team and the sitcom Happy Days and had poor ratings as a result. It was retired after only 17 episodes. Dr. Thomas Radecki of Southern Illinois University criticized the series as glorifying violence.

In Germany, the series ran from October 1993 initially on ProSieben , later it was repeated on Kabel eins and Premiere . The series was dubbed by TaunusFilm Synchron Berlin . Patrick Winczewski spoke the main role of Frank Buck, Arianne Borbach the role of Gloria Marlowe and Wolfgang Digit the role of Alis.

Trivia

  • Bruce Boxleitner and Cindy Morgan also both starred in the 1982 film Tron .
  • HH drives a specially made version of the Rolls-Royce Phantom II in series production .
  • The series was created - just like The Sky Dogs of Boragora - in the wake of the extremely successful Indiana Jones movie series, but could not build on their success, which is why it was discontinued after only one season.
  • Frank Buck was a real person who, however, "only had the name" in common with his television version. The real Buck wrote a book called Bring 'Em Back Alive , starred in the 1937 film Jungle Menace (directed by George Melford and Harry L. Fraser) and had a radio show on RKO radio stations .
