The John F. Kennedy Bridge , view towards Effnerplatz

The Isarring closes off the exit Ungererstraße the Schenkendorfstraße on. From this intersection-free junction on, Ungererstraße is also dedicated as federal road 11 out of town . The north cemetery is on the outskirts of the city ; the ring is lowered at this point. After a right bend, the road leads into the Biedersteiner Tunnel , the name of which is derived from the Biederstein Castle , but which was torn down decades ago. In its place are the Biederstein student dormitory and an old people's home.

After the tunnel and a left turn, the ring leads through the English Garden . On the right is the Kleinhesseloher See with the Seehaus restaurant . This is followed by the exit to Tucherpark , then the street crosses the Isar on the John F. Kennedy Bridge - hence the name Isarring - and continues towards Effnerplatz with the Mae West sculpture .

Public transport

The Nordfriedhof underground station on the U6 line is right next to the junction with Ungererstraße . Since Schenkendorfstrasse ends there, the station was originally supposed to be called Schenkendorfstrasse . At the Nordfriedhof there is a direct connection to Munich Airport with the airport bus.

Initiative M-an English garden

The Isarring divides the English Garden into a southern part and a northern part. The M- Ein Englischer Garten initiative would therefore like to relocate the Isarring in a tunnel over a distance of 380 meters in order to reunite the north and south halves of the English Garden. The aim is to restore the historical shape of the English Garden as it was before the Isarring was built. The English Garden would then again be a continuous city park with a length of 5 km in its north-south extension. On June 28, 2017, the Munich City Council unanimously approved the project.
