The Candidstraße is a city road in Munich and a section of the middle ring .

location

Candidstrasse is located in Munich's Untergiesing district in district 18, Untergiesing-Harlaching . It connects the Brudermühlstrasse with the Tegernseer Landstrasse .

Candidstrasse joins Tegernseer Landstrasse-Grünwalder Strasse

The Candidstrasse connects to the Brudermühlbrücke in seven lanes . Of the four lanes running in the east, the outer two become turning lanes to Candidplatz, in the opposite direction there is an access lane from Candidplatz. This leaves four lanes for the continuous part of the Middle Ring.

At Candidplatz, Candidstraße connects to the Pilgersheimer Straße - Schönstraße axis, which runs roughly parallel to the Isar in a north-south direction . To the east of Candidplatz, Candidstrasse has to overcome the Isar slope (Candidberg). In addition, the road is divided in two.

At ground level, a six-lane road runs in a serpentine up the slope and serves as a connection to the Tegernseer Landstrasse, which runs north along the edge of the slope, and the Grünwalder Strasse, which runs south . This branch runs past the stadium on Grünwalder Strasse .

The four-lane section, on which the Mittlerer Ring runs, crosses the Candidplatz and the Auer Mühlbach in a straight line as an elevated road (called Candidhochstrasse or Candidbrücke ) and then enters the Isar slope below the serpentine of the first branch. From there the road runs in four lanes in the Candid tunnel to the eastward part of the Tegernseer Landstrasse, which is led here in a ditch. The elevated road has noise protection walls painted yellow and green on both sides. A photovoltaic system is attached to the southern wall .

The baker's art mill , demolished in 1973, was located in the loop between the street at ground level and the elevated road. Today the Bäckermühle power station and a medical and office center are located on the site .

history

The construction of Candidstrasse with the driveway to Tegernseer Landstrasse and Grünwalder Strasse took place from 1955 to 1957. The construction of the Candidbrücke and Candid tunnel to cross Candidplatz and Grünwalder Strasse followed in the years 1967 to 1969.

Naming

The Candidstrasse, the Candidtunnel and the Candidplatz are named after Peter Candid , a Flemish painter and graphic artist who lived and worked in Munich from 1586 to 1628.
