The Tegernseer Landstrasse (called TeLa for short ) is a street in the Munich district of Obergiesing , which runs in a south-easterly or southerly direction and is 4.6 kilometers long. It begins in the north as a straight extension of Regerstrasse. Here it is a two-lane road up to Tegernseer Platz that conveys the original Giesing and is 1,200 meters long from the Ostfriedhof to there. There is a large branch (" Tela-Post ") of Deutsche Post at Tegernseer Platz . The Hertie department store (or Karstadt for many years ), which was there until summer 2009, was closed due to bankruptcy and demolished in 2010. Between 1976 and 2016 there was a branch of the city library opposite .
The section between Tegernseer Platz and Martin-Luther-Straße is only released for tram traffic going out of town , the opposite direction is accessible for motor vehicles and cyclists in one-way traffic. Germany’s first McDonald’s branch has been located opposite the confluence with Martin-Luther-Straße since 1971 . Between Martin-Luther-Straße and Candidstraße , the street has five lanes in the southern direction of travel (two left-turn, two straight-on and one right-turn lanes). At the Candidstrasse intersection, Tegernseer Landstrasse makes a 90-degree curve to the southeast, and Grünwalder Strasse begins straight ahead . The tram tracks of lines 15 and 25 also lead to this point .
The part of the street between the intersection with Candidstraße at Grünwalder Stadion and Sankt-Quirin-Platz, where Chiemgaustraße branches off, is part of the Mittlerer Ring and is dedicated to the B 2R federal road ; it is also part of Europastraße 54 .
The Tegernseer Landstrasse also leads in a south-easterly direction through the McGraw Graben , a section on which the road is about 300 m long. The above-ground section serves as an access for residents, not through traffic, and enables direct access to Stadelheimer Straße u. a. To the south of the Stadelheimer Strasse intersection, the above and below ground reunite.
Above ground, in property no. 210, was the Reichszeugmeisterei of the SA / NSDAP, the successor institution to the NS economic office that had been based there since 1928/1929. In the post-war period, the area became a barracks area that was used by the US Army under the name McGraw barracks . The main building served as the administration building of the 7th US Army (USAREUR) from 1945 to 1992 . There are numerous offices of the Munich Police Headquarters today .
About 800 m after the Stadelheimer Strasse intersection at Lincolnstrasse / Münchner-Kindl-Weg, the road joins the 995 autobahn . In parallel, two-lane lanes run alongside the autobahn in each direction of travel to the city limits and then turn into a local road in Unterhaching .
