The Leuchtenbergring is a four-lane section of the Mittlerer Ring in Munich .

course

The Leuchtenbergring connects directly to Richard-Strauss-Straße at the intersection with Prinzregentenstraße . South of the intersection with Einsteinstraße is the exit of the Richard-Strauss-Tunnel , which has relieved Richard-Strauss-Straße and its residents considerably since its completion.

Then the Leuchtenbergring underpass runs under the tracks of the main S-Bahn line (with the Leuchtenbergring station on S-Bahn lines 1 , 2 , 4 , 6 and 8 ) and the lines towards Mühldorf and Rosenheim . An ascent and descent leads to Berg-am-Laim-Straße , which, as federal highway 304 , opens up the eastern districts of Berg am Laim , Trudering and Waldtrudering.

Leuchtenbergring underpass

The Leuchtenbergring underpass from the south

The 167-meter-long Leuchtenbergring underpass was opened to traffic in 1958, which underpasses the railway facilities in the Munich East station area and has been home to the Leuchtenbergring S-Bahn station since 1972 .

In the course of the expansion of the Mittlerer Ring Ost (Middle Ring East), the Leuchtenbergring underpass was retrofitted in 2008/09 and thus adapted to the applicable European safety standards. Traffic on the Leuchtenbergring was therefore blocked until 2009 because the tunnel construction meant that the lanes were only available in a narrowed manner and had to be relocated several times.

Since the upgrade was completed in 2009, the underpass has been treated as part of the so-called Mittlerer Ring Ost tunnel chain , which extends from the Effner Tunnel in the north to the Innsbruck Ring Tunnel in the south. These tunnels are all treated as one unit with regard to traffic control and rescue planning and therefore have interlinked safety and traffic systems.

The wall at the Leuchtenberg tunnel is painted 300 meters by the artist Janine Mackenroth.

building

Since the Leuchtenbergring is located near the Ostbahnhof , and this area is one of the top economic locations in the region, structural densification is to be expected in this area. An example of this structural densification is the Telekom Center Munich , an ensemble of 10 uniform high-rise buildings on the corner of Berg-am-Laim-Straße / Leuchtenbergring . The main tenant in the buildings built between 2002 and 2005 is Deutsche Telekom .

After one and a half years of renovation , the Stahlgruber Center on the corner of Einsteinstrasse and Leuchtenbergring became Daseinstein , Munich's largest shopping center within the Middle Ring.

Namesake

The Leuchtenbergring is probably named after Eugène de Beauharnais , who was appointed Duke of Leuchtenberg by Max I Joseph . The noble family von Leuchtenberg had their seat temporarily in the municipality of the same name in Leuchtenberg in the Upper Palatinate .
