The Einstein street is a Innerorts- and Arterial Road in Munich . It runs in the districts of Au-Haidhausen and Bogenhausen (districts of Haidhausen and Steinhausen ).

course

Daseinstein

The road forms part of the old country road from Munich towards Vienna via Mühldorf am Inn and Braunau am Inn . It begins at Max-Weber-Platz and continues there at an approximately right-angled bend along Innere Wiener Straße and the Max-Planck-Straße coming from the Maximilianeum in the extension of Maximilianstraße . From Max-Weber-Platz it leads south past the clinic on the right of the Isar , runs along the northern edge of Alt-Haidhausen, crosses Grillparzerstraße , leads north past the Fritjof-Nansen-Realschule . It then crosses the Leuchtenbergring (part of the Mittlerer Ring , there the daseinstein business center ). Beyond the Mittlerer Ring, the road runs at a certain distance from the Munich – Mühldorf railway line, past the Einsteinstraße depot of the Munich tram and past the bus depot further east (no. 130) to Vogelweideplatz . This is where the Richard Strauss Tunnel is threaded, which creates an underground, cross-free connection from the Mittlerer Ring. In addition, Prinzregentenstrasse is threaded through a traffic light-controlled intersection. At the Bogenhausener Tor (also Munich East City Portal) with its new high-rise development (Bavaria Towers), Einsteinstrasse merges into Töginger Strasse , which forms the transition to federal motorway 94 .

Tram line 19 runs through the street and was extended in 2016 to the Wendeschleife north of the Berg am Laim S-Bahn station . In addition, the tram depot is served via Einsteinstrasse.

The subway station of the same name is located under Max-Weber-Platz and branches off the U4 and U5 subway lines. The S-Bahn station of the same name is located near the intersection with the Leuchtenbergring and can be reached via the Leuchtenbergring tunnel .

history

The gasworks at Kirchstein , which operated until 1927, was located on the grounds of the tram and bus depots .

designation

Einsteinstraße was called Äußere Wiener Straße until 1956 , in the area around Vogelweideplatz it was called Am Kirchstein before it was incorporated into Munich . The name of the street today pays tribute to the physicist Albert Einstein and the music researcher Alfred Einstein .
