The Max-Weber-Platz is a square in the district Au-Haidhausen in Munich . The square was named in 1905 after the Haidhauser community clerk and later Munich magistrate Max Weber. In a ceremony on July 3, 1998, it was also dedicated to the well-known sociologist and economist Max Weber , who taught economics at the University of Munich from 1919 to 1920 and died in Munich on June 14, 1920.
location
The Max-Weber-Platz is about 600 m east of the Isar in the city district 5 Au-Haidhausen and about one kilometer northwest of the Ostbahnhof-Leuchtenbergring railway line .
traffic
Max-Weber-Platz is an important traffic junction.
Private transport
At this intersection four main roads meet: Einsteinstraße leads east to the Leuchtenbergring , where it shortly afterwards leads to the A94 . Coming from the south as Innere Wiener Straße , Ismaninger Straße leads north to Herkomerplatz and on to Effnerplatz . The Max-Planck-Straße leads west on both sides around the Maximilianeum over the Maximiliansbrücke over the Isar . West of the Isar, the street is then called Maximilianstraße .
Transportation
Max-Weber-Platz also serves as a hub and transfer point for public transport . This is where the underground , tram and bus lines meet.
Subway
The underground lines U4 and U5 separate at the three-track underground station . The U4 leads northeast towards Bogenhausen , the U5 south via Ostbahnhof to Innsbrucker Ring , where you can change to the U2 . To the west, the lines run together towards the city center.
tram
The tram lines 15, 17, 19, 21 and 25 meet here at the same level .
Line 15 begins at Max-Weber-Platz and heads south past Johannisplatz to Rosenheimer Platz. The trams turn around at Max-Weber-Platz by driving through Schloßstraße to Einsteinstraße and from there turn into Innere Wiener Straße, and shortly afterwards turn left again into Kirchenstraße. A track at Johannisplatz was created as a waiting track for the tram cars. From December 2016 tram line 25 continued from Max-Weber-Platz to Berg am Laim train station . This was withdrawn in May 2018, since then, like line 15, it has been turning again at Max-Weber-Platz.
Tram line 17 comes from the southwest from the Deutsches Museum and the Gasteig . Via Innere Wiener Straße, after Wiener Platz , it meets Max-Weber-Platz, crosses it and lets passengers alight north of it on Ismaninger Straße. Passengers traveling in the opposite direction also get off at Ismaninger Strasse.
Line 19 has been coming from Berg am Laim Bahnhof since May 2018 . After crossing the square, to the west of it, it stops again in Max-Planck-Strasse in front of the Maximilianeum, before circling the Bavarian State Parliament (seat in the Maximilianeum) counter-clockwise. Then it goes through Maximilianstraße past the Maxmonument to Theatinerstraße and Stachus .
Coming from the east station in the southeast, another tram line 21 meets lines 15 and 25 on Wörthstraße and runs on the same track as far as Johannisplatz. There it overtakes any idle trams of the 15 and stops in Einsteinstraße. Then it travels like tram line 19 via the Maximilianeum to the city center and on to the Westfriedhof .
Due to its diverse switch systems and the track connection to the tram depot on the Leuchtenbergring, all lines for moving out or in pass Max-Weber-Platz.
bus
The MVG bus route 155 runs from Max-Weber-Platz in the direction of Ramersdorf every ten minutes. Line 9410 of Regionalverkehr Oberbayern runs eleven times a day Monday to Friday in the direction of Haag in Oberbayern and Gars Bahnhof. The line is served three times a day on Saturdays. The bus stops are on Einsteinstraße on the side of the road at the level of the bus stop for line 25.
Train
As part of the planning for the second main S-Bahn line , there were considerations to also build an S-Bahn station at Max-Weber-Platz to enable passengers to change to the U4 and U5. However, this is technically and financially not feasible. The benefit would also be too low with 8,500 passengers per day, since you can change to the U5 at the Ostbahnhof and to the U4 and U5 at the Hauptbahnhof .
Surroundings
To the north of the square, the clinic is on the right of the Isar on Ismaninger Strasse. To the west of the square, Max-Planck-Straße bypasses the Maximilianeum. To the south is the St. Johann Baptist Church on Johannisplatz . The Gasteig cultural center is just under a kilometer to the southwest .
Others
The name of this square also appears in a satire on the Munich tram of the German humorist and folk actor Weiß Ferdl : A carriage from line 8 .
