The Wiener Markt (also called Markt am Wiener Platz ) is one of the four permanent markets for food and flowers in Munich . It takes place on Wiener Platz in the Haidhausen district.

After a TÜV report on stands found deficiencies in hygiene and fire protection in 2011 , the city of Munich is planning to renovate the store, which should begin in 2018.

history

Wiener Platz was named after the Austrian city of Vienna in 1891 . This name was chosen because the Innere Wiener Straße leading along here was the beginning of the connecting road to Vienna.

The history of the “Markt am Wiener Platz”, the smallest of the four permanent Munich food markets, is eventful. On November 1, 1889, the market previously held on Preysingstrasse was moved to its current location. An “announcement of the magistrate of the royal capital and residence city of Munich dated October 25, 1889”, signed by Mayor Dr. von Widenmayer , is the “birth certificate” of the market. The market was badly damaged in the Second World War and rebuilt in the years after the end of the war.

The completion of the renovation work on Wiener Platz in October 2002 made Wiener Platz together with the Wiener Markt the center of Haidhausen again. The big May Festival on May 1, 2003 with the erection of the maypole donated by the “Haidhausen Friends” showed the central importance of the square and the market for Haidhausen.

administration

The Vienna market is dominated by the Munich Markets managed a proper operation of the city of Munich.

The use of the market for traders, buyers and passers-by is regulated by the food market statute. These statutes also apply to the Elisabethmarkt , the Pasinger Viktualienmarkt and the Viktualienmarkt .

The dealers in the market do not have a lease, but what is known as an assignment . On the one hand, this has historical reasons, as the market was and is part of the city administration. On the other hand, it is stipulated in the food market statute. The fees consist of a basic fee and a sales fee and are based on the fee statute for the grocery stores. It is not possible to make a general statement about the fees for a stand, as many factors (fixed stand, umbrella stand, free stand, range) result in a separate fee for each stand. Requests for a stand on the market are placed on a reserve list. If a stand becomes available, the relevant reserved will be written to. In principle, a stand that becomes vacant is filled with the same product range in order to maintain market equilibrium. The stands are assigned according to various criteria: concept, experience, economic background, etc.

Around the Vienna market

In the south, Wiener Markt is bordered by Innere Wiener Straße. In the (north) west is the Hofbräukeller , a traditional Munich restaurant with a beer garden popular with Munich residents . To the north is a residential and commercial building and the path leads directly to the Maximiliansanlagen above the Isar . To the east are several residential and commercial buildings, some of which date from before the First World War.

Fischerbuberl fountain on Wiener Platz

The Fischerbuberl fountain on the Vienna market originally came from the Viktualienmarkt, where it had to give way to the new building of the Schrannenhalle . Ignatius Taschner's bronze Brunnenbüberl was first installed so that it looked towards the Isar slope . Because the boy was stretching his bare bottom towards them, the market traders complained. So the building department turned the figure. This, in turn, displeased the district politicians, because now the passers-by were running straight towards the bare bottom. So we kept shooting until it somehow fitted ...
