Pasinger Viktualienmarkt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pasinger Viktualienmarkt is one of the permanent markets for food (lat. Viktualien ) in Munich . It takes place in the Pasing district.

After a TÜV report on stands found deficiencies in hygiene and fire protection in 2011 , the city of Munich is planning to renovate the store, which should begin in 2018.

history

The elevation of Pasing to town in 1905 is also the beginning of the history of the Pasing Viktualienmarkt. On July 9, 1906, the magistrate decided to set up a greenery market on the southwest corner of Pasing Marienplatz opposite the Institute for English Misses . In January 1907 the royal government of Upper Bavaria granted permission to do so. After an agreement on the external design of the market, the first market day could be held on March 16, 1907.

The market was well received from the start, but there was only a small customer base in the inner Pasing, so that in 1908 a profitability calculation was ordered. This showed a relatively poor profit situation of the Viktualienmarkt in Pasing. The reason for this were outpatient traders who sold their goods cheaper on the edge of the market because they did not have to pay taxes. This situation was rectified by changing the market organization.

The steadily increasing traffic meant that on November 15, 1929 it was decided to relocate the market to the courtyard of the municipal property Hindenburgstrasse (Bäckerstrasse). The market fans initially resisted because they feared a drop in sales due to the loss of walk-in customers. Nevertheless, the move began on April 1, 1930. Since the “Standl” could not be dismantled, they had to be loaded onto carts as a whole. Against the fears of the market people, however, the sales traffic continued to increase, so that the new area soon became too small again. Therefore it was decided to build a solid, modern and generously planned market hall, which could be occupied on October 2nd, 1937. In the twelve existing stalls mainly goods such as fruit, berries, tropical fruits, poultry and milk were sold, but a Pasinger gardener, the North Sea fish hall and the municipal open-air bank were also represented.

When it opened in 1907, thought was given to a fountain for the market. Since a stone well would have been too expensive, initially only a wooden temporary structure was built. When the market hall opened on October 2, 1937 on what was then Hindenburgstrasse, the Pasing-based sculptor Hans Osel was commissioned to build a stone fountain for the Pasing Viktualienmarkt. His bronze-cast boy, the "Brunnenbuberl", which expresses his joy at catching a pike and a trout, was installed in October 1938 and still adorns the "Fischbrunnen" today.

From the beginning of the opening of the market at its current location in 1937 until today, the Pasinger Viktualienmarkt changed its appearance only insignificantly, and it did not lose its character even through the renovation and conversion work.

Around the market

The market is limited to the west by Bäckerstraße. The main entrance to the market area is also located here. To the north was a large AOK administration building , a post-war building that was demolished in October 2009. To the east you can leave the market through a small exit to Rathausgasse. In a southerly direction you come to the Pasing town hall .

administration

Stand plan Pasinger Viktualienmarkt

The Pasinger Viktualienmarkt is managed by Markthallen München , which is owned by the City of Munich.

The use of the market for traders, buyers and passers-by is regulated by the market hall statutes. These statutes also apply to the Elisabethmarkt , the Viktualienmarkt and the Wiener Markt .

The dealers in the market do not have a lease, but what is known as an assignment . On the one hand, this has historical reasons, as the market was and is part of the city administration. On the other hand, it is stipulated in the market hall statutes. The fees consist of a basic fee and a sales fee and are based on the fee statute for the grocery stores. It is not possible to make a general statement about the fees for a stand, as many factors (fixed stand, umbrella stand, free stand, cellar, range) result in a separate fee for each stand. Requests for a stand on the market are placed on a reserve list. If a stand becomes available, the relevant reserved will be written to. In principle, a stand that becomes vacant is filled with the same product range in order to maintain market equilibrium. The stands are assigned according to various criteria: concept, experience, economic background, etc.
