The Vogelweideplatz is a place in Munich .
location
The course is located in the Steinhausen district in the 13 Bogenhausen district . The Prinzregentenstrasse and Einsteinstrasse end at the square and merge into the Bundesautobahn 94 (Töginger Strasse).
history
Originally, the brickworks that gave this district its name stood in the area of today's Vogelweideplatz. South of the square, the Kirchstein gas works was built at the end of the 19th century . The square was named in 1900 after the German-speaking medieval poet Walther von der Vogelweide (around 1170 - around 1230).
At the beginning of the 20th century, Prinzregentenstrasse was expanded to Vogelweideplatz and the brickworks were closed. Single-family houses and apartment blocks were built around the disused brickworks.
In the 1950s , a road branched off from the end of the Vogelweideplatz to the Zigeunerschlucht rider camp in a small valley .
Even after the brickworks were demolished, Vogelweideplatz remained undeveloped. In the 1960s , generous lanes with overpasses were built in order to distribute the traffic from the new A 94 to Prinzregentenstrasse and Einsteinstrasse and vice versa. Between the maze of streets there was still space for a turning loop for buses and trams.
In connection with the construction of the Richard Strauss Tunnel from 2003 onwards, the site was completely "dug up". Bridges, pedestrian underpasses and the tram turning loop have been removed. The connection between Einsteinstrasse, Prinzregentenstrasse and the end of the autobahn were newly laid out at ground level and with a traffic light crossing. An access ramp to the Richard Strauss Tunnel was created.
description
Vogelweideplatz is a pure traffic junction and does not offer any quality of stay. To the north it is cordoned off by the company premises of Giesecke & Devrient . In the southwest there is a tram and bus depot of the Munich transport company , in the southeast there is a gas station.
A number of high-rise office buildings have been demolished since 2015. These areas as well as the open area in the middle of the square were redeveloped as the Bogenhausener Tor .
