Annie Saumont
Annie Saumont (born March 16, 1927 in Cherbourg , Département Manche ; † January 31, 2017 in Paris ) was a French translator and novelist who u. a. 1981 was awarded the Prix Goncourt de la Nouvelle.
She grew up near Rouen and studied English . She then worked as a translator and translated works by John Fowles , Nadine Gordimer , VS Naipaul and Jerome David Salinger into French . In addition to her work as a translator, she also began to write herself and published six novels between 1957 and 1967.
Annie Saumont v. a. as a novelist. She was one of the few representatives of this genre in French literature and regularly published anthologies; Individual novellas appeared in German in anthologies and in 2003 the anthology Soap from Paris .
Many of her works are about crime, violence and hopeless or powerless characters who struggle with their human existence. Critics Saumonts is often highlighted compressed and sophisticated style, many with its subtlety same spaces can. Saumont also repeatedly reproduced various linguistic varieties in vocabulary and syntax and played with narrative perspectives .
