Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on May 8, 1992 that the film deserves a “place of honor” on the “very short list” of “great” films that show violent crime. There are no words of praise that can reflect the strength of the film, which begins as a crime story and ends as a story about the people, the personalities and the characters. The plot involves the viewer more than he or she realizes.
The Lexicon of International Films wrote that the film was "formally remarkable". His "hard action" combined with the "nuanced small town history" has a refreshing effect within the "worn-out genre".
