John Wells (2012)

John Marcum Wells (born May 28, 1956 in Alexandria , Virginia ) is an American film and television producer , screenwriter, and film and television director . He is best known as the creator of the television series Third Watch - Einsatz am Limit and Shameless .

Life

John Wells was born in Alexandria , Virginia in May 1956 . His father was an Episcopalian priest. His ancestors come from England , Ireland , Scotland , Norway and Sweden . He graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama , one of the oldest theater schools in America, in 1979 .

He began his career as a producer of various television series. For Emergency Room - Die Notaufnahme and The West Wing - In the center of power , which were also successful in Germany, he received an Emmy in 1996 and from 2000 to 2003 respectively . He made his debut as a feature film director in 2010 with the drama Company Men starring Ben Affleck , Kevin Costner , Chris Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones . His second director, In August in Osage County (2013) was a literary adaptation of the play of the same name by Tracy Letts, starring Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep .

John's brother Llewellyn Wells also works as a television producer.
