Mahsun Kırmızıgül

Mahsun Kırmızıgül (born March 26, 1969 in the village of Vezir in the Hani district of the Turkish province of Diyarbakır as Abdullah Bazencir ) is a Turkish singer, actor and director of Zaza Kurdish descent.

Origin and childhood

Mahsun's mother was a widow at 18 and had three sons. Her second husband and father of Mahsun was from Bingöl .

Mahsun's maternal and paternal families speak Zaza , as he had mentioned several times in his interviews. He was born in 1968 and was named Abdullah.

He did not keep this name for long, however, because his father had issued an identity card for him with his desired name Mahsun. Mahsun first saw his father when he was six years old. The father role was taken over by the older brothers, of whom the youngest, Mahmut, was very concerned about him. Mahmut died of an electric shock at the age of 21.

Mahsun took an interest in music at a young age and sang at many events. He took part in a singing competition in Diyarbakır in 1983 and came first. In 1984 he was first again in a competition in Mersin . He recorded a demo tape that eventually ended up with the producer Mustafa Güneş from the Güneş Plak label in Istanbul . He made a contract with Mahsun for four tapes and changed Mahsun's surname to Kırmızıgül (German: Red Rose). But when he was unsuccessful after several albums, the two separated. Mahsun decided to begin a music education at the İTÜ Conservatory .

Career

His breakthrough came in 1994 with his album Alem Buysa , which he released on the then newly founded Prestij-Müzik label. Together with his musician friends Özcan Deniz and Haluk Levent he made Prestij-Müzik known, which later went bankrupt.

The highlight of his career was his album Yıkılmadım , which was released in 1998 and has sold over 1,800,000 copies to date . It earned him several awards, including the 1998 best-selling album and 1998 best song "Yıkılmadım". He was chosen as the best musician in his genre and won the Golden Butterfly for best Turkish folk musician and then a prize for best Turkish musician in Arabesk / Fantasi. His last album Dinle was, given the circumstances, a success with around 260,000 albums sold, as hardly anyone in this industry makes it over the 500,000 mark.

Music style and meaning

He is often assigned to arabesque music, but like most artists rejects this designation for his music. In addition, Mahsun Kırmızıgül has moved the “Arabesk Fantezi” music genre in a new direction. Many new singers and others followed his style of music. a. Özcan Deniz and Alişan .

Film debut

In autumn 2007 his debut feature film Beyaz Melek (in English: White Angel) was shown in cinemas. He wrote the script, played one of the leading roles and directed. In some scenes, Mahsun's mother tongue is spoken Zazaisch. His second film Güneşi Gördüm (in English: I saw the sun) was shown in Turkish cinemas on March 12, 2009. He wrote the screenplay for the film Gecenin Kanatları (2009, Eng .: wings of the night).
