Yoshitaka Amano ( Japanese 天野 喜 孝 Amano Yoshitaka ; born March 26, 1952 in Shizuoka ) is a Japanese artist .

He is best known for his work as a figure designer for several computer games in the Final Fantasy series, but also for illustrations for the novel series Vampire Hunter D by Hideyuki Kikuchi . He also illustrated The Sandman: The Dream Hunters by Neil Gaiman .

Amano's work is characterized by sweeping, flowing lines, especially when it comes to the depiction of hair or clothing. Much of his work was done with watercolors and ink , and he also used a wide range of other materials.

Amano also appeared in the 1998 film New Rose Hotel , in which he played the character Hiroshi. Amano is still actively creating illustrations for the Final Fantasy games. He is currently delivering drawings for Final Fantasy XIII.
