Tetsuya Nomura

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tetsuya Nomura ( Japanese野村 哲 也Nomura Tetsuya , born October 8, 1970 in Japan ) is game designer , director , concept artist and character designer for the video game company Square Enix . He is known among other things for the character design of the Final Fantasy game series in the parts Final Fantasy VII , Final Fantasy VIII , Final Fantasy X , Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV as well as the Kingdom Hearts series , in which he is also known as Director and concept artist acted. Nomura also directed the animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children .

style

Nomura's style includes Western fashion in its own creation, which is sometimes very imaginative and unrealistic or physically incorrect. His favorite color choice usually consists of bright and strong colors such as red, yellow or blue. For Western eyes, Nomura often draws male characters very feminine, but this is not particularly noticeable in Japanese culture. Tetsuya Nomura only uses photo and image processing programs such as Photoshop or Corel Painter for coloring .

Cloud Strife - protagonist from Final Fantasy VII - with a pointed, jagged hairstyle and an oversized sword as a weapon and his opponent Sephiroth, who wields the extra-long Odachi "Masamune" as a weapon , are representative of his way of designing characters .

Over the years Tetsuya Nomura worked as a character designer, his style and way of coloring changed. This becomes clear when one compares the original characters from Final Fantasy VII from 1997 with the same characters from the sequel Final Fantasy VII - Dirge of Cerberus (2006).

Current projects

Nomura is significantly involved in the Fabula Nova Crystallis project. Now that development on Final Fantasy XIII has officially been completed, he is currently mainly working as a director on Kingdom Hearts III , Final Fantasy VII - Remake and as a guest developer on Final Fantasy XIV.
