Luis Barros Borgoño
Luis Barros Borgoño (born March 26, 1858 in Santiago de Chile , † July 26, 1943 ibid) was a Chilean politician . He served as the president of his country for a good two months.
Barros studied law and history and after graduating worked for the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1889, President José Manuel Balmaceda appointed him Minister of War; his successor Jorge Montt Álvarez made him Foreign Minister in 1895. Barros was Finance Minister under President Germán Riesco Errázuriz , and Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of Juan Luis Sanfuentes Andonaequi .
When President Arturo Alessandri Palma had to resign on October 1, 1925 under pressure from the insurgent military under Carlos Ibáñez del Campo , Alessandri handed over the duties of office to the then 67-year-old Barros, who held it as the incumbent Vice-President until the elected candidate Emiliano Figueroa Larraín took the oath of office on December 23, 1925. During these two months he could hardly exert any political influence, since the real power in the country was united in the military junta under Ibáñez.
Luis Barros Borgoño wrote several books on the history of South America in addition to his political career. He died on July 26, 1943 at the age of 85.
