Elmar Frings (born March 26, 1939 in Neuss ; † July 29, 2002 ibid) was a German modern pentathlete .

Life

Elmar Frings started as a swimmer at the Neuss swimming club. In 1955 he took third place at the German youth championships over 100 and 200 m crawl. At the Summer Olympics in 1964 he finished 23rd and with the team the 6th place. Even four years later at the subsequent Summer Games in Mexico City , he was again part of the all-German Olympic team and was able to improve to 17th place in the individual.

At the 1969 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and the following year at the World Championships in Warendorf , he was able to win the bronze medal with the German team. Furthermore, the Neusser was four times German champion.

After his career, he was national coach of the modern pentathlon from 1972 to 1976.

Frings was a trained bricklayer; Later, however, he studied under Carl Diem and became a qualified sports teacher and worked at the German Sport University in Cologne . At the age of 63, Frings died of cancer.
