Esprit-Victor-Elisabeth-Boniface, comte de Castellane (born March 26, 1788 in Lyon , † September 16, 1862 ibid) was a marshal of France .

Life

The Comte de Castellane came from a noble family, joined the army in 1804, took part in the Italian and Spanish campaigns in 1806 as a lieutenant and in 1809 acquired the Legion of Honor at the Battle of Wagram .

In the Russian campaign in 1812 he was captain and adjutant of the Count of Lobau . After Napoleon's fall, he went over to the Bourbons . In 1815, as a Colonel , he was first in command of the Regiment des hussards de Bas-Rhin and in 1822 of the "Regiment des hussards de la garde royale". In 1823 he took part in the Spanish campaign and led a cavalry brigade from 1830.

He attended the siege of Antwerp in 1832 and was appointed lieutenant-général and commander of the army in the Pyrenees in 1833 . Raised a peerage in 1837 , he was briefly in the army in Africa. He lost his command in the February Revolution of 1848, then joined Louis Napoleon , who appointed him in command of Lyon shortly before the coup , where he intensively promoted the cause of the President. For this he was appointed Senator in 1852 and Márechall on December 2. Later he was again given command in Lyon.
