Moyoco Anno ( Japanese 安 野 モ ヨ コ , Anno Moyoko ; born March 26, 1971 in Tokyo , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist . Her uncle is the manga artist Kō Kojima .

biography

Her first manga as a professional draftswoman was published in 1989 when she was eighteen, during her school days, with the short story Mattaku Ikashita Yatsuradaze! . This was published in a special edition of the manga magazine Bessatsu Friend by Kōdansha- Verlag, for which she drew further comics in the following years, including Trumps! and Peek a Boo! . In this early part of her career, the draftsman worked as an assistant at Kyōko Okazaki .

In 1995 she started the manga series Happy Mania at a smaller publisher ( Shōdensha ) . This became her first success and her longest work to date. Anno worked on Happy Mania , which was published in the Josei manga magazine Feel Young , until 2001. In the 1,800-page comic series, which was translated into several languages ​​and made into a drama for Japanese television, there is a 24-year-old woman in the foreground, who is urgently looking for the right man, but behaves too picky and stands in her own way. The anthology publications for Happy Mania sold over three million copies in Japan.

From 1998 to 2002 she drew the series Jelly Beans for the CUTiE comic magazine. She then worked for other women's manga magazines such as Young You and Chorus as well as for men's magazines such as Young Magazine and Evening . Her 1300 pages of his manga Hana to Mitsubachi is about the growing up of a high school student who desperately wants to be well received by the girls. The single volume Sakuran , which ran in Evening from 2001 to 2003 , sold over 560,000 copies in Japan and was implemented as a real-life film with Anna Tsuchiya in the lead role.

With Kantoku fugyō todoke , Anno brought out autobiographical essays in comic form from 2002 to 2005 in Feel Young . In it, she describes her married life in a humorous way. Anno has been married to the well-known director and animator Hideaki Anno since 2002 .

She drew the magical girl manga Sugar Sugar Rune , which was published in Nakayoshi from 2003 to 2007 , primarily for a target group of children, while all of the works she had created up to then were primarily aimed at young people and adults. Sugar Sugar Rune was a commercial success in Japan and was implemented as an anime television series. In 2005, this comic series won the Kōdansha Manga Prize in the children's category.

Hataraki Man has been published in Seinen magazine Morning since 2004 and tells of the professional and private life of a journalist. In 2006 it was implemented as an anime television series; the first three anthologies of the manga, which was nominated for the 2006 Osamu Tezuka Culture Prize, sold over 1.6 million copies.

From 2008 to 2011 she was on hiatus due to health problems.

On April 6, 2012, the asteroid 2006 US217 discovered by Anno's school friend Yasuhide Fujita was given the name Moyocoanno .
