Bessatsu Friend

Bessatsu Friend ( Japanese 別 冊 フ レ ン ド , Bessatsu Furendo ), also known by the acronym Betsufure , is a Japanese manga magazine aimed at teenage girls ( Shōjo ) who go to high school.

The magazine appears monthly on the 13th of the previous month of the specified issue number by Kodansha Verlag at a price of 350 yen . The main part of the magazine is made up of various chapters of manga series and manga short stories. These are mostly about modern schoolgirls and (first) love. With Life and Vitamin by the cartoonist Keiko Suenobu , however, two comics are also appearing that deal with serious problems of teenagers such as bullying .

Bessatsu Friend was founded in March 1965 and initially appeared as Bessatsu Shōjo Friend ( 別 冊 少女 フ レ ン ド ), based on the now discontinued Manga magazine Shōjo Friend . In 1984 it was renamed the Bessatsu Friend . While the magazine had a circulation of over a million per issue in the 1980s, the number of copies has been falling steadily since then. In 2005 the circulation was 190,000, a decrease of around 15,000 compared to the previous year.
