Fuyumi Sōryō ( Japanese 惣 領 冬 実 , Sōryō Fuyumi ; born January 6, 1959 in Beppu , Ōita Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist .

Life

Sōryō was born in the seaside resort of Beppu in 1959 and was not particularly interested in mangas in her youth , but had a talent for drawing. When a friend gave her an issue of the girls' manga magazine Bessatsu Shōjo Comic , she discovered an ad for a manga drawing competition. Because the prize money was one million yen , she took part and wrote an autobiographical short story.

In the following years, she continued to focus on drawing manga and worked as an assistant at the mangaka Fuyumi Ogura . The name of Ogura also inspired her when choosing her own stage name.

In 1982 Sōryō published her first short story as a professional manga artist. Hidamari no Hōmonsha appeared in the magazine Bessatsu Shōjo Comic , for which she drew her first long manga in 1985, Boyfriend . The 1988 with the Shōgakukan-Manga-Preis in the Shōjo category ended in 1988 and was published by the Shōgakukan- Verlag in ten edited volumes. Her Manga Three , which also appeared in a Shōjo magazine, was even more successful as Boyfriend . The next big and, for the first time, international success was not achieved until 1996, namely with the love story Mars for the magazine Bessatsu Friend .

She hit a turning point in her career in 2002. Her manga Eternal Sabbath ( ES for short ) appeared in Morning , a magazine for adult men ( his ), and, unlike all of her comics published up to that point, was not a love drama, but made use of science fiction elements and was aimed at suspense. She drew in her usual drawing style, which is strongly influenced by Fuyumi Ogura and other shōjo mangaka. In her current manga Cesare , published in Morning since 2005 , she deals with historical events, with Cesare Borgia as the protagonist.

Sōryō received special recognition for her numerous short manga, which were collected in German as Fuyumi Soryo Short Stories . The story See You in Eden in the second volume of the series is about Soryo's own experiences as a manga artist.
