Shogakukan Manga Prize
The Shogakukan Manga Prize ( Japanese 小学 館 漫画 賞 , Shōgakukan Manga-shō ) is the oldest continuously awarded Japanese award for Manga . The comic prize has been awarded annually since 1955 by the Japanese Shogakukan publishing house, one of the largest manga publishers. The sponsorship by the publisher is to be preferred because of the possibility of publishing its own publications, at times viewed critically.
The prize has only been awarded by category since 1975. Initially, categories were only introduced for male target groups; a category for shōnen manga ( 少年 向 け 部門 , shōnen muke bumon ) and one for his manga or a general category ( 青年 一般 向 け 部門 , his ippan muke bumon ).
When Keiko Takemiya , who primarily draws for girls, was awarded for her mangas Kaze to Ki no Uta and Terra E ... in 1979 , the shōnen category was renamed into a shōnen / shōjo category ( 少年 少女 向 け 部門 , shōnen shōjo muke bumon ) around. In this, mangas for both sexes were awarded until 1982; 1983 one introduced a separate shōnen and shōjo category ( 少女 向 け 部門 , Shōjo muke bumon ). In 1981 the children's category ( 児 童 向 け 部門 , Jidō muke bumon ) was introduced. In 1989, the category of his own or the general category was simply renamed the general category ( 一般 向 け 部門 , Ippan muke bumon ), because from then on Josei manga were also recognized in this category.
Special prizes are also awarded.
