Chie Shinohara ( Japanese 篠 原 千 絵 , Shinohara Chie ; born February 15, 19xx in Kanagawa Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist .

Life

In 1981, Chie Shinohara published Akai Densetsu, her first manga as a professional illustrator. The short story appeared in the winter edition of the manga magazine Coronet , published by the Shogakukan publishing house. She drew her first ongoing manga series with Yami no Purple Eye from 1984 to 1987. This series, which is about a girl who is able to transform into a leopard , won the Shogakukan Manga Prize in 1987 and became an eleven-part television drama in 1996 Filmed with Hinagata Akiko and Kato Haruhiko in the leading roles.

Shinohara's next manga was the 3,000-page Umi no yami, Tsuki no kage , on which she worked from 1987 to 1991. In it she tells of two sisters with supernatural abilities. Since the sisters are in love with the same man, one kills the other. The author's greatest success started in 1995 with the historical manga Anatolia Story , which is about a modern Japanese girl who is drawn into an ancient world by puddles of water. Anatolia Story , which is over 5,000 pages long, has been translated into German, English and French, among others. The manga won the Shogakukan Manga Prize and was one of the most commercially successful shōjo mangas of the 1990s in Japan. Shinohara, who is a big fan of Keiko Takemiya, is currently working on Mizu ni Sumu Hana about a young person who survived a serious bus accident.

Her works can all be assigned to the Shōjo genre, so they are aimed at girls. She often mixes horror and romance elements in her stories. She draws mainly for the magazines Shōjo Comic and Betsucomi .
