Keiko Takemiya
Keiko Takemiya ( Japanese 竹 宮 惠子 , Takemiya Keiko ; born February 13, 1950 in Tokushima Prefecture ) is a Japanese mangaka . In the early years of her career, she wrote her name using other kanji: 竹 宮 恵 子 . Belonging to the group of the 24s , she has revolutionized the shōjo genre by treating history, homosexuality and science fiction .
She made her debut as a manga artist in 1968 at the age of 17 with Ringo no tsumi in Margaret magazine . During her studies at Tokushima University , she published Mori no Ko Toru in the Shōjo Comic . After graduating, she went to Tokyo and started working as a professional mangaka. With her work Kaze to Ki no Uta about a love affair between two unequal young men at a boys' school, she coined the term Shōnen Ai .
In 1980 she received the 25th Shogakukan Manga Prize for Kaze to Ki no Uta and Terra e… . For the latter, she received the 9th Seiun Prize two years earlier , a prize for outstanding science fiction works.
After completing her manga series Tenma no Ketsuzoku in 2000 , she began teaching manga at Kyoto Seika University .
