Kaze to Ki no Uta

Kaze to Ki no Uta ( Japanese 風 と 木 の 詩 , dt. "The Song of Trees and Wind") is a manga by Keiko Takemiya , who is considered one of the first Shonen Ai and helped this genre to break through. The love story is told by two unequal young men at a European boys' school. An unveiled bed scene at the beginning of a chapter in the manga was a sensation in the Japanese manga world in the 1970s.

In 1987 the manga served as a template for an anime of the same name in the form of a 60-minute OVA episode.

action

The manga is set in France at the end of the 19th century . Its protagonist is Serge Battour, the son of an aristocrat and a gypsy woman . When his father dies, his last will is that his son go to the same school he once attended. Arrived at the Laconblade School, an all-boys school, Serge wants to find his way around. He wants to follow in his father's footsteps there. He would also like to turn his talent for the piano into his future profession.

Shortly after his arrival, he meets a boy named Gilbert Cocteau, who is admired by everyone for his feminine beauty. It is not uncommon for teachers or students to feel sexually attracted to him. Gilbert is known throughout the school for getting to bed with anyone if that results in an advantage for him. Serge has to share a room with him, and Gilbert sometimes proves to be unbearable.

After just a few weeks, Serge became one of the best and most popular students at the school. He quickly makes many friends, but does not give up his attempt to make friends with the withdrawn Gilbert. His goal, however, is to ruin Serge. And so the two 14-year-old boys destroy each other more and more, but also get closer and closer.

Manga

Originally the manga was published in January 1976 in the weekly Shōjo comic - magazine in Shogakukan , where he has been serialized to the 1982nd From 1982 to 1984 Kaze to Ki no Uta was published by the same publisher's Petit Flower . The story came to an end in 17 volumes, many of which were reprinted. 1988-1989 Shogakukan published a 9-volume edition in Shiroku format (127 mm × 188 mm), in 1993 Chūōkōron Shinsha as Aizōban in A5 in four volumes of around 700-800 pages each, in 1994 at Hakusensha- Verlag in Bunko -Format in 10 volumes, and in 2002/3 again by Chūōkōron Shinsha as Bunkoban in 8 volumes.

In 1980 Keiko Takemiya received the 25th Shogakukan Manga Prize for Kaze to Ki no Uta .
