Tokushima University

The University of Tokushima ( Jap. 徳島大学 , Tokushima daigaku ) in Tokushima , Tokushima Prefecture is a state university . The university consists of the Shinkura ( 新 蔵 ) campus , where the administration is located, Jōsanjima ( 常 三島 ) and Kuramoto ( 蔵 本 ).

history

The university was founded in 1949 through the merger of the six state schools. The six were:

  • Tokushima Medical School ( 徳 島 医科大学 , Tokushima ika daigaku ),
  • the Tokushima Medical School ( 徳 島 医学 専 門 学校 , Tokushima igaku semmon gakkō ),
  • the Tokushima High School ( 徳 島 高等学校 , Tokushima kōtō gakkō ),
  • the Tokushima technical center ( 徳 島 工業 専 門 学校 , Tokushima kōgyō semmon gakkō ),
  • the Tokushima Normal School ( 徳 島 師範学校 , Tokushima shihan gakkō ), and
  • the normal youth school Tokushima ( 徳 島 青年 師範学校 , Tokushima his shihan gakkō ).

In 1986, the Faculty of Education became the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Science because the teacher training courses were relocated to the Naruto College of Education ( 鳴 門 教育 大学 , Naruto kyōiku daigaku ; founded in 1981).

Tokushima Medical School

The Medical School was founded in 1943 as a prefectural medical college. In April 1945 it became a state school. The large hospital was in what is now the Shinkura campus; but in July 1945 during the Pacific War it was destroyed. So in 1947 the school was underestimated (the third and fourth grades [= clinicians] were reorganized into the Tokushima high school). In 1948 the technical school developed into the Tokushima Medical University and the new school buildings were built on the Kuramoto campus (former military base).

Tokushima Medical School, Tokushima Medical School, and Tokushima High School were the predecessors of the Faculty of Medicine.

The Tokushima Technical Center

The technical center was founded in 1922 as the Tokushima Higher Technical School ( 徳 島 高等 工業 学校 , Tokushima kōtō kōgyō gakkō ). It was located in today's Jōsanjima campus. In 1944 the school was renamed Tokushima Technical Center. The technical center had courses in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics, chemical engineering and pharmacy ; it was the only Japanese national technical center, which offers courses in pharmacy had, for the born chemist Jōsanjima Nagayoshi Nagai ( 長井長義 , 1844-1929) advised the Ministry of Education the establishment. The school was the predecessor of the engineering and pharmacy faculties.

Tokushima Normal School

The normal school was founded in the former Tokushima Castle in 1874. At first it was a prefectural school. In 1899 she moved to what is now the Jōsanjima campus. In 1943 it developed into a state educational college. She and the normal youth school Tokushima (founded in 1922) were the predecessors of the Faculty of Education.
