Yōko Kamio

Yōko Kamio ( Japanese 神 尾 葉子 , Kamio Yōko ; born June 29, 1966 ) is a Japanese manga artist .

She did an apprenticeship as a secretary. Soon she turned to manga drawing and published some short stories in manga magazines for girls. After the five-volume series Merii-san no hitsuji , she landed a huge success in Japan in 1992 with Hana Yori Dango . The manga has sold over 50 million copies, making it the most commercially successful shōjo manga in Japan. It was implemented as an anime and television series and did not end until 2004 after over 5600 pages. She has been working on Cat Street for Bessatsu Margaret magazine since 2005 .

For Hana Yori Dango , she received the Shogakukan Manga Prize in 1996 .
