Remigio Morales Bermúdez
Remigio Morales Bermúdez senior (born September 30, 1836 in Pica , Tarapacá , † April 1, 1894 in Lima ) was a Peruvian general and politician.
Life
In 1854 he entered the military and fought in the saltpeter war . He allied himself with Andrés Avelino Cáceres , the national hero and founder of the Partido Constitucional , against the President Miguel Iglesias . Under Cáceres he was vice president from 1886. After the tenure of Cáceres, he became President of Peru in 1890.
He fought the opposition around Nicolás de Piérola with repressive measures. In terms of foreign policy, he signed a treaty with Ecuador to define the borders and negotiated with Chile to settle the dispute over Tacna and Arica .
Morales Bermúdez died in 1894 after a brief illness during his tenure. His grandson Francisco Morales Bermúdez ruled Peru from 1975 to 1980.
