The Peruvian Armed Forces (Spanish: Fuerzas Armadas de la República del Perú ) consist of the following armed forces:

Traditionally, the Peruvian National Police ( Policía Nacional del Perú ) is also part of the armed forces .

organization

The military service in Peru is 24 months. Conscripts can extend their service time up to six years. Around 64,000 soldiers are conscripted.

According to Article 167 of the Peruvian Constitution of 1993, the Commander-in-Chief of the Peruvian Armed Forces is the Peruvian President (since March 23, 2018 Martín Vizcarra ). Peruvian Defense Minister is Mariano González Fernández .

The September 24th is the day of the armed forces (Dia de las Fuerzas Armadas).

Personnel and equipment

Of the 110,000 or so soldiers in the Peruvian armed forces, 70,000 are in the army, 25,000 are in the navy and 15,000 are in the air force. There are also around 18,800 reservists and 77,000 men who belong to paramilitary units ( coast guard , national police).

The Army has Tank Types T-55 and AMX-13 , armored type M-113 and UR-416 and artillery ( D-30 (2A18) , M101 , M109 and M114 howitzers ), air defense systems ( ZSU-23-4 Shilka ) and helicopters ( Wed-2 , Wed-17 ).

The navy's flagship has been the cruiser Almirante Grau since 1973 . The Navy also has 8 Frigate the Carvajal class , 6 Corvette type PR-72P, 3 DropShips and 6 submarines of Type 209 submarine (2 Islay class 4 Angamos class).

The air force has fighter aircraft of the types MiG-29 , Su-25 and Mirage 2000 and Mi-25 - combat helicopter . The Cessna A-37 is also used as a light ground attack aircraft .
