The Fuerzas Armadas del Ecuador are the armed forces of the Republic of Ecuador .

They consist of the following armed forces :
- Army ( Ejército Ecuatoriano )
- Navy ( Armada del Ecuador )
- Air Force ( Fuerza Aérea Ecuatoriana )
The commander in chief is the Ecuadorian President . The army was mainly involved in border conflicts with Peru . Defense expenditure amounts to 0.9% of the gross domestic product (2009).
history
The country fought for independence from Spain under Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre in 1821 and belonged to Gran Colombia until 1830 . His further independent historical path was marked by high political and territorial instability. The incessant succession of numerous coups and coups continues to this day. In the 19th century there were repeated short episodes of civil war , a development that was interrupted for a few years after the middle of the century by the clerical dictatorship of Gabriel García Moreno .

The army has u. a. over 30 Leopard 1 main battle tanks and armored personnel carriers (type BTR-3 ), the air force over 50 Embraer EMB 314 "Super Tucano", 6 Dassault Mirage 50 and 12 Atlas Cheetah combat aircraft . The navy has 20 larger units, including the sailing training ship Guayas , six Corvettes of the Tipo 550 class and 2 submarines of the U-boat class 209 (Type 1300).
