The Armed Forces of Paraguay ( Spanish Fuerzas Armadas de Paraguay ) are the armed forces of the Republic of Paraguay .

They consist of the following armed forces :
- Army (Ejército Paraguayo)
- Navy (Armada Paraguaya), with naval aviators and marine infantry
- Air Force (Fuerza Aérea Paraguaya)
Commander in chief is the Paraguayan President .
history
After the Wars of Liberation with independence from Spain in 1811, the Paraguayan army took part in two wars: the extremely bloody Triple Alliance War (1864 to 1870) against Argentina , Brazil and Uruguay , which ended in the complete defeat of Paraguay, and the Chaco War (1932–1935) against Bolivia, which ended with a Paraguayan victory and land gains.
The army also played an important role during Alfredo Stroessner's long-standing dictatorship . Defense spending amounts to 1% of the gross domestic product (2006).

The Ejército Paraguayo with a total of 7600 men is divided into the Presidential Guard based in Asunción , 3 army corps (based in Curuguaty , San Juan Bautista and Mariscal Estigarribia ) and various special forces. Most of the military equipment is out of date.
marine
Although Paraguay is a landlocked country , there is a larger navy with currently 34 surface vessels. The Río Paraguay and the Río Paraná are navigable and are monitored by the Armada Paraguaya . The naval aviators have some helicopters.
air force
The Fuerza Aérea Paraguaya has 6 ground attack aircraft of the type Embraer EMB 312 and 10 coach of the type Enaer T-35 Pillán . There are also some transport planes and helicopters available.
