San Juan Bautista is the capital of the Misiones Department in southern Paraguay . It has more than 18,000 inhabitants.
In the city is the seat of the diocese of San Juan Bautista de las Misiones . The city's patron is John the Baptist .

The city is located about 200 km south of Asunción .
history
The city was founded during the government of Carlos Antonio López , and in 1893 it was declared a small city by decree by Juan Gualberto González . Since 1945 is the capital of the Misiones Department.
