Release history
Although well-known mangaka such as Chikako Urano , Yōko Tadatsu and Miuchi Suzue worked for the magazine in the 1960s and 1970s , it was overshadowed by its weekly sister publication Margaret . By the 1980s, however, the magazine's circulation number rose to 1.8 million per issue ( Margaret had a circulation of around 700,000 at the same time). In the early 1980s, it was the manga magazine with the highest circulation for a female target group; Until then, this position was held mainly by the magazines Nakayoshi and Ribon . The authors Fusako Kuramochi ( Itsumo Pocket ni Chopin , 1980–1981), Satoru Makimura ( Ai no Aranjuez , 1978–1980) and Kaoru Tada ( Aishite Night , 1981–1984) contributed to this success . Ryō Ikuemi , Masayo Miyagawa and Taku Tsumugi also accompanied the magazine at this time. The book publications on Tsumugi's Hot Road , which was published in Bessatsu Margaret from 1986 to 1987 , became bestsellers. Nevertheless, the circulation fell to 1.3 million by 1990.
With Itazurana Kiss Kaoru Tada achieved an even bigger hit after her Aishite Night . The series started in 1990 and ended in 1999 because Tada passed away. Eriko Iwata's Wolf Monogatari (1994-2006) and Masami Nagata's Renai Catalog (1995-2007) could be read in the magazine for over ten years . Kazune Kawahara and Mitsuba Takanashi shaped the magazine with their series Sensei! (1996-2003) and Akuma de Sōrō (1999-2002).
As with almost all manga magazines, circulation fell sharply in the 1990s. In 1995 Bessatsu Margaret had a circulation of 800,000, in 2000 one of around 650,000.
Aya Nakahara's comedy Love ★ Con (2001-2006) should develop into one of the most important titles of the 2000s for Bessatsu Margaret . In addition to Mitsuba Takanashi's current manga Beniiro Hero , works by Ao Mimori , Naoko Wada , Karuho Shiina and Yōko Kamio are also currently being published . In 2005 one issue sold an average of 355,000 copies.
