Tatsuo Yoshida ( Japanese 吉田 竜 夫 , Yoshida Tatsuo ; born March 6, 1932 in Kyoto ; † September 5, 1977 ) was a Japanese manga artist , author of numerous animes and founder of the animation studio Tatsunoko Production .

Yoshida grew up during the Second World War . In 1945 he began to work as an illustrator for newspapers such as Kyōto Shimbun .

In 1955 he switched to comics and published his first manga with Tetsuwan Rikiya ( 鉄 腕力 也 ) based on a story by Ikki Kajiwara . From 1961 to 1962 he brought out the manga series Pilot A ( パ イ ロ ッ ト A ) in five books in the publishing house Shōnen Gahō .

In October 1962 he founded the Tatsunoko Production studio with his brothers Kenji and Toyohiro. He then turned many of his comics and stories into anime television series; Yoshida was involved in nearly every production of the studio, including Speed ​​Racer (1967-1968), Gatchaman (1972-1974), Adventure at the Rainbow Pond (1973) and Shinzō Ningen Casshern (1973-1974). For some animes he again drew comics; for the manga to Konchu Monogatari Minashigo Hutch , he won the Shogakukan Manga Prize in 1972 .

In 1977 he died of liver cell carcinoma at the age of 45 .
